Commander’s Commentary

December 2007

As 2007 is on its way out and 2008 is about to begin, thoughts inevitably turn to resolutions. As Civil Air Patrol members, we can think beyond the usual resolutions of more exercise and less dessert. That being said let us resolve.

1. We will check our personal information in e-services to insure mailing address, telephone numbers, and e-mail are correct so that we can easily be contacted.

2. We will upload a photograph so that our 101 card is printed with a current photograph.

3. We will make sure our emergency service qualifications are current. If they are not current, we will attend the requisite training and exercises to bring them current. If we do not have an emergency service rating, we will begin work toward an emergency service rating.

4. We will inventory our personal emergency services equipment, make any necessary changes and replenish any missing supplies.

5. We will look at our professional development achievements and decide how best to accomplish the next level. Learning does not stop for those who have achieved the Spaatz and Wilson awards. We can always read, study, and discuss. We can serve as seminar advisors and create new lessons in aerospace education, DDR, and a number of other areas. We continue to grow.

6. We will check our uniforms to insure they are complete, accurate, and in good condition.

7. We will get connected with activities at the Region and National level by attending the MER Conference in Richmond , VA and the Winter National Board meeting in Washington , DC .

8. We will introduce prospective members to Civil Air Patrol. We will work with the Commander of our local unit to see that every new member has a mentor. We will make ourselves knowledgeable about the materials and information available to help new members.

9. We will look for ways to serve the local community and bring those ideas to the Commander of our local unit.

10. And yes, we will exercise more and eat less dessert. We will be physically prepared for our role as a member of Civil Air Patrol.

I wish each of you a prosperous and fruitful 2008. May you exceed the goals you set for yourself. May you learn from any failures you may have so that they become a stepping stone to your next success. May you always remember that you are appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kay Joslin Walling, Col , CAP
